In a healthy vagina, bacteria of the genus lactobacilli (lactic acid bacteria) that produce lactic acid predominate. In this way, they maintain an acidic pH below 4.5, which prevents the reproduction of harmful microbes, inflammation and infection.<\/p>\n<p>The term is also used in medical diagnostics for an advanced molecular biological examination that precisely analyzes the composition of the vaginal flora.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key characteristics of vaginom<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Low diversity: Unlike the intestines, a healthy vaginoma is simple and contains only a few types of bacteria, among which lactobacilli are clearly dominant.<\/li>\n<li>Impact on fertility: An imbalance of the microflora can make it difficult to conceive, affect the success of artificial insemination and increase the risk of miscarriage.<\/li>\n<li>Causes of imbalance: Disruption of the balance is caused by antibiotics, inadequate or excessive intimate hygiene, stress, hormonal fluctuations and diet.<\/li>\n<li>Symptoms of the problem: When the balance is disrupted, bacterial vaginosis or fungal infections occur, which are manifested by itching, burning sensation and changed discharge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Diagnostic test Vaginom<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When classic gynecological swabs do not offer clear answers in cases of recurrent inflammation, specialized testing is used.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Method: The examination combines next-generation sequencing (NGS) and PCR diagnostics, which covers the entire spectrum of bacteria, fungi and trichomonads.<\/li>\n<li>Procedure: The vaginal swab must be performed by your gynecologist to prevent contamination.<\/li>\n<li>Results: The analysis takes up to 3 weeks, and the report provides a detailed assessment of the health of the microflora in English.<\/li>\n<li>Availability: We always have kits for taking a vaginal flora sample available. Such a sample is then sent to a laboratory in Germany.
